The first of the two yokozuna matches starts here with Hakuho facing off against newly promoted komusubi Goeido. Hakuho had a 14-1 record in January - only losing to Harumafuji during the tournament, but also losing the championship playoff to Asashoryu on the final day. Goeido had a 10-5 record at No. 3 maegashira, which is what earned him this promotion to komusubi.
