Aria: "Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja" / "I am the Jolly Bird-Catcher" Tamino recovers, and Papageno enters, arrayed entirely in the plumage of birds. He sings of his job as a birdcatcher. Recitative and aria: "O zittre nicht, mein lieber Sohn" / "Oh, tremble not, my dear son" The Queen of the Night now appears. She tells Tamino that the girl in the portrait, Pamina, is her daughter, who has been captured by her enemy, Sarastro. She demands that Tamino go to Sarastro's temple and rescue Pamina, promising that he can marry Pamina in return.
